Representative Jen Kiggans, a Republican, is in a rematch against Elaine Luria, the former Democratic representative she unseated four years ago. The two Navy veterans are vying to represent Virginia’s tidewater district, which is deeply intertwined with the U.S. military and affected by the Iran War.

Virginia voters also have a chance to amend abortion laws this. Ballot Question 1 would grant the state government the ability to pass abortion care laws for the third trimester of pregnancy, though abortion care would be allowed no matter what if deemed medically necessary to protect the life of the pregnant person.

As Virginia voters head to the polls, Democrats hope the momentum they generated in last year's statewide elections will carry over into midterms. Traditionally regarded as a "purple" state, Virginia has shifted between Democrats and Republicans over the last 10 years or so.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has said the Democrats are “nauseously optimistic” about taking back the Senate. Some voters in Florida had to make alternative arrangements on Tuesday due to at least 19 polling stations being moved over extreme flooding.

Georgians turned out early in 2026, with 2,827,060 votes already cast for the midterms, according to an unofficial total released by the Secretary of State's office. All 14 Georgia House of Representative seats are on the line this midterm, as well as Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State and Attorney General.
