Disney's senior leadership blasted YouTube TV and parent company Google on Thursday after the two sides failed to reach a new carriage agreement ahead of a midnight contract expiration, accusing the tech giant of being "not interested in achieving a fair deal" as it seeks to undercut competitors.
Disney’s channels will be removed from YouTube’s pay-TV platform after the two media giants failed to reach a new carriage agreement before Thursday’s midnight deadline. The blackout will leave subscribers unable to watch content from Disney networks, including ESPN, ABC, Disney Channel, FX, National Geographic and Freeform.
The ESPN chief and co-chairs of Disney Entertainment sent a note to staff Friday thanking them for their work, and to admonish Google.
On late Thursday evening, ESPN PR announced that Disney would be removing its programming from Google's YouTubeTV beginning immediately.
